Kitty Stories
My name is Gabby. I was adopted by my Mom when I was a year old and pregnant. My first family was moving and was just going to leave me to fend for myself on the street. When the lady across the street (my adoptive Mom) foun d out that I was going to be homeless, she offered to be my new Mom. I was really happy about that. Everyday I would go across the street and visit her. She would love on me, brush and pet me, play with me, invite me into her home and would talk to me as if I were human. The day she became my Mom, she took me inside and gave me a bath. I went to the V et and got a check up. I was free of all diseases and was in good health. In May I delivered 5 kittens. My Mom sat with me and held my paw when I needed her to. I am now 16 years old and I still like to play, sleep with my Mom and Dad, sitting in their lap, catnip and the usual kitty things. My favorite time of year is Christmas. All of us kitty’s get toys but the best things are the boxes and paper after the p resents are open. I stay with my Mom, Dad and human brother until the last present is open. I love my home and my human family. There are 9 of of kitty’s who live together. We all get along pretty well. Our humans spend a lot of time with each of us so that we all feel special. The next 3 cats below are my children. I will tell you about 2 of my children that have passed away at the end of this page.
In August, 2003, Gabby was diagnosed with cancer. She had a tumor the size of a small orange in her groin area. Because of her age and the type of tumor, there was nothing medically that could be done for her. We brought her home and gave her a lot of love and attention. Her tumor continued to grow rapidly. Because Gabby loved Christmas so much and it looked like she was not going to be with us this Christmas so... the first week of November, I put up all the Christmas decorations in our home. She was real happy to see the trees go up and stayed in the rooms with me while I decorated. I made sure that she had an empty Christmas present box to lay in. This is something that she did each year. I turned the lights on the Christmas Trees so that she could lay under them and take her naps. I realize that to some, this sounds ridiculous but I wanted Gabby to have one more Christmas because she loved it so much. As November progressed, Gabby’s tumor grew larger and larger. The tumor blocked off her colon and urinary tract and Gabby could no longer use the bathroom. November 25, 2003 we had to make the decision to euthanize our very dear friend. Gabby was 17 3/4 years old. She now waits for us at Rainbow Bridge with 3 of her children.
I am Rowdy and I am 15 years old. I was born 3rd in the litter and I was the runt. I know, I don’t look like a runt. Food sure is good!!! My mom (Gabby) rejected me as a baby but my human mom made her take care of me. She would take my brothers and sisters away from mom and help me get milk. Eventually mom would feed all of us and not push me away. I am very shy but I LOVE my human mom. I am a little jumpy around men so sometimes my Dad and human brother think I don’t like them. I really do but I know my human Mom will protect me. I sleep next to Mom and when she turns over I make sure that my paw s are touching her back. I like to give her kisses. We have a ritual we go through every night when we go to bed. She gives me massages, tells me how beautiful I am and what a good boy I am. I kiss her face (several times) and she tells me how much she loves my kitty kisses. I scrooch close to her chest and she holds me until we fall asleep. I have a GREAT life.
Hello, my name is Caeser. I was the 4th born to Gabby and I am 15 years old. The Vet says I have a heart murmur but I don’t feel bad nor do I have to take medicine. My favorite thing to do is sit in my Moms and Dads lap and drink water out of a cup on the kitchen counter. I won’t allow my Mom to have dried or plastic flowers (I eat them, then I puke). I like to play but I would rather just sit and be loved on. I love to be brushed and get my massages. I hate going to the Vet.
Update: July 6, 2003 Caeser ascended to Rainbow Bridge. March 11, 2003 I took Caeser to the vet for his year ly geriatric exam and vaccinations. The blood work showed he was in mild kidney disease. All that weekend he felt really bad due to the vaccines. On Monday he seemed to be better but by Tuesday he was very sick. I took him to the vet and they tested his kidney blood values and they showed that he had gone into kidney failure. We put him on fluid therapy. I gave him fluid 2 times a day for 2 weeks. We rechecked his kidney values and he was greatly improved. I continued fluid therapy once a day for 2 more weeks and then once a week. June 23, 2003 he became sick again. Again we visited the vet and again he was in kidney failure. We began fluid therapy along with meds again. This time nothing was working. Saturday night, July 5 he began to go downhill. Sunday morning I knew he was in trouble. My husband and I decided that Monday, we would have him euthanized, but he didn’t make it till Monday. At 1:45 PM, Sunday, July 6, 2003 Caeser died in my arms. I must say that it was a horrible experience for him and a heart breaking experience for me. Caeser was 15 an a half years old and one of the sweetest cats you would ever want to meet. I will miss him forever!!
I am Juliet and I am 15 years old also. I was the last of Gabby’s litter to be born. Talking is one of my favorite things to do (especially at meal time). I am accused of having PMS because I fuss at the other cats if they bother me to much. I like leaning against my Dad when he is sitting down. Also, I will pat your arm over, and over, and over to get your attention, although all us kitty’s get plenty of attention. I prefer drinking my water out of a cup on the kitchen counter and I want my food served to me on the kitchen table. I play only when someone invites me to play (but if you give me catnip, I will play by myself). My kitty mom, brothers and sisters are very lucky and blessed to live and be loved by our human parents. We have had very easy lives. Thank you Mom & Dad.
H ello- I am Miracle. Miracle is a very appropriate name for me. My human Dad found me in the middle of a very busy road. I weighed only 1 pound and was about 4 weeks old. He stopped traffic so that I wouldn’t be killed. He caught me and took me home to meet my new human Mom and all of the other kitty’s that lived in the house. At that time there were 6 other cats. Now there are 9. Mom took me to the Vet and I got shots, found out I had worms and had medicine that I had to take for that plus Mom had to feed me special food several times a day. Every three weeks I had to go to the vet so they could make sure I was healthy. When I was about 6 weeks old until I turned 9 moths old, I was nicknamed “The Tasmanian Devil”. I played with anything and everything, had the ability to run up walls, zoom through the house and allude anyone trying to catch me. I kept my Mom on her toes plus she was always laughing. That was nice. I settled down a little after a year. I am now somewhat of a loner. I will allow you to pet me and sometimes I will allow you to hold me. I like sitting on my Moms lap (only in the bathroom). I want to drink my water from the faucet and I prefer to eat away from the other cats, so Mom hand delivers my food to me. I am now 5 years old and I have a wonderful life (don’t tell Mom & Dad I said that).
I am Natasha and I am 4 years old. I am a very shy kitty. My human Mom found me under a dumpster at the back of a grocery store. My brother and I were thro wn out at 6 weeks of age to fend for ourselves. This didn’t seem to affect my brother but it scared me to death. There were so many loud trucks that came to the grocery store. One day my human Mom rescued us. My brother was adopted but no one wanted me because I was to shy and very skittish. Mom said she would keep me because I was special. There are a lot of cats in this house so I had to get used to them. When I got old enough, I had to get spayed. That was scary. I insisted on licking my belly and I got an infection. I had to wear an e-collar. That was horrible. I couldn’t eat, drink or groom myself. My mom would help feed me, and she would take a damp paper towel and clean my m outh and ears and face for me. She helped me groom myself and kept my bottom clean. A month after I got my stitches out, my belly split open. The split was just the skin, not any muscle or anything, but it freaked my Mom out. I had to go back to the vet for surgery. This time I was a good girl. I didn’t lick my belly and I didn’t have to wear that stupid collar. Now that all that was over I could start living my shy little life. Miracle (the kitty above) became my very best friend. He liked playing with me, and play we did and still do at times. The other cats tolerate me as I do them. My Mom has worked with me so that I don’t mind being pet by her. I have an over stimulation problem. I like being petted but at the same time it is irritating. I now will let my Mom pet me for longer periods of time and she can even touch my belly. I won’t let strangers pet me but I will check them out. I have a great life and I am very fortunate to have a wonderful home. There are many shy, skittish cats like me that need a home. Please consider giving us a home. We do make great companions.
Hi, I am Sweetie Pie. I am 10 years old. When I was 7 years old I was thrown out on the street. I found a house that looked very nice and decided to stay. The people that lived there loved cats and became my new Mom and Dad. Not long after I came to live w ith them I became very sick. I have an Eosiniphilic Granuloma Complex of the throat and tongue. Normally depomedrol injections cause this disease to go into remission, but the shots caused me to become a very sick diabetic cat. I had to be placed on insulin injections and special diabetic food. Fortunately this was only temporary and after a few months I was able to get off of the shots. I have had surgery 2 times to remove the growths in my throat and for 2 1/2 years I took several medications everyday. Nothing has helped. My Mom and Dad have had to make a decision to take me off all medication and let nature take its course. They have spent over $10,000.00 on me and the Doctors say there is nothing else that they can do f or me. Mom and Dad are very sad about this and so am I. I love them and my home. Not everyone would have tried to help me like they have. It will soon be time for me to go to Kitty Heaven. I know that in Heaven, I won’t be sick anymore, I will have many friends and I will be happy, but I will miss my family.
Update:
February 1, 2003 we allowed Sweetie Pie to go to Rainbow Bridge. Sweetie was loosing the battle over his illness. We were faced with the very difficult decision of euthanasia. Allowing Sweetie Pie to loose his dignity was not an option. We will miss our wonderful friend. Sweetie was a very special kitty. He walked up our driveway looked at us as if to say, “hey, you are my new Mom and Dad”. He was very laid back, not in a hurry to do anything. Sweetie loved food and loved to be groomed. He didn’t play if someone was watching, but if he thought no one was looking, he would play with his catnip toy. Sweetie was with us for just 3 years, but in that short time he blessed our family. We love you Sweetie Pie and we miss you.
He y! Remember me? I am the office manager for Bless Their Hearts Kitty Haven, Inc. I told you a little about myself on the “Welcome” page. Well, when my Mom took me to the Vet the first time, I didn’t have a name, but when I left, I had been named Rinker (like the cement mixer). I was named that because when the people at the Vets office put me in a cage, they gave me some water and some clumping kitty litter. Well....overnight, I mixed the water with the kitty litter and plastered the walls of my cage, floor and myself (cement). The Vet and staff tho ught it was funny (so did my Mom). Of course, I had to get a bath. Even though I was thrown out on the street by my first family, I am a very happy kitty. I love people and I will demand your attention. I love to talk, play with toys, play hide and seek (with humans) tear up boxes and play with the other kitty’s. My Mom gives me kitty massages with her hands and bites on my ears and back of my neck with her mouth (I love that). I like sucking on her thumb. Nap’s are a good thing also. My favorite TV channel is The Animal Planet. I can sit and watch TV for a couple of hours at a time. One of my favorite things to do is sit and look out the window. I don’t want back outside, I just like looking. There are feral cats that my Mom and Dad let live in our yard, so I like looking at them and talking to them. My Mom says I am the best and she loves me very much. I love her and Dad too!!!!!!!
Romeo-Hi, this is Gabby speaking again. Romeo was my first born in a litter of five. Romeo was a very sweet, loving, talkative boy. He enjoyed being with all of his brothers and sisters and his human parents. As you can see from his picture he was a very big fella. When Romeo was 10 years old he began loosing weight and laying around. A visit to the vet and extensive blood work, Romeo was diagnosed with leukemia. This was not feline leukemia but the leukemia like humans get. The disease was very aggressive. Mom kept him very comfortable, gave him medicine to keep up his appetite and gave him a lot of love and atten tion. All of us kitties stayed close to him because we knew he was very sick. One morning a couple of months after his diagnosis, Mom fed us. Romeo was talking to her and ate his food. Mom told him she would come back and hold him after she got dressed. Mom opened the hall door and all of us cats where sitting there. She knew something was wrong. She went straight for Romeo. He had passed away. We were all very, very sad. Mom and Dad buried Romeo. It has been six years since his death and they still talk about Romeo.
This is Snow-Snow was the second born of my litter. She was the c aretaker of all the cats. She loved to groom each cat. If a kitty was not feeling well, she baby sat and comforted them until they felt better. She would do the same to our human family. When Snow was 5 years old, she went into kidney failure. Snow spent 2 weeks in the hospital and the vet said he feared she was not going to survive. He gave Mom and Dad the option to euthanize or take her home and continue fluid therapy and medication. Mom and Dad brought her home and continued treatment. A fter Snow was home for a week, Mom and Dad had to make a decision because Snow was not getting better. After fluid therapy Mom and Dad talked about having her euthanized the next day. The next morning before Mom could call the vet, Snow began to eat, drink water on her own and show interest in the world again. It was as if she knew everyone had given up on her and she was not ready to die. From that point on, she returned to her normal lovable self. At the age on 12, Snow was diagnosed with kidney cancer. She went downhill fast. One morning Snow was in real trouble so Mom and Dad had to take her to the vet. There she was euthanized and allowed to go to Rainbow Bridge.
Hey!! Rinker here...I want you to meet my new best bud Jasper....Hello..My name is Jasper. I was abandoned and found my way to Rinkers house. When I showed up on his doorstep I really didn’t think I would have a home. All I knew is this house had food, water and a soft place to sleep on their front porch. My new Mom brought me inside and put me in the utility room. The next day I had to go to the vet (not fun). I tried to escape cause I was scared!! I had to get neutered and have all my shots and blood tests. Mom brought me home and took care of me for about a week. She was gonna adopt me out but Rinker decided to adopt me without asking Mom. Well...Mom didn’t have the heart to take me away from my buddy Rinker, sooooo...I now have 8 brothers and sisters (cats), a Mom, Dad and brother (human). This place is a lot of fun!! We have good food and lots of fun toys. Rinker takes very good care of me. We love to play!!!! Mom laughs at us a lot. I have the best life and I know that I will always have a safe place to live!!!!
H i, my name is Pruit. I am a 6 year old boy. I now have a new Mom and Dad. My first Mom had to move and couldn’t take me with her. My human brother works for my new Mom and Dad. He brought me to work with him and asked if I could stay for a while (their office is in their home). Of course they said yes. After being here for 4 months, my first Mom de cided she would let me live here forever. It is not what she wanted but she had no choice. That’s OK (even though I miss her) I love it here and I am very loved. I get the best of food, water, litter, toys and love. My new Mom talks to me all the time and explains everything that she is doing. She kisses me at least a hundred time a day. I kiss her right back!!! There are 9 other cats here. I have not met them all but they seem real nice.
Hi, my name is Bobby. I am a rescue kitty. I was dropped off at Bless Their Hearts Kitty Haven when I was 6 months old. I had to go to the vet and get vaccinated and neutered. I was put up for adoption. A few people called about me but they didn’t lik e my bob tail or they wanted to declaw me (ouch). The director and her husband decided that they would keep me themselves because I am very shy and a little skittish. They feel that it would be to traumatic for me to go to a different home. Now I have a Mom, Dad, Brother and 11 kitty brothers and sisters. Mom says I am adjusting very well and she is very proud of me. I am a very happy kitty!!!
My name is Molly. I came to Bless Their Hearts Kitty Haven when I was 4 months old. I was born on the street and a very n ice lady took me in and tried to find me a home. I was with her for 1 month. She had to move far, far away and couldn’t take me so she call Bless Their Hearts Kitty Haven. I was kind of wild when I first came here but Miss Venita had a lot of patience with me and I soon calmed down. I got all my shot and when I turned 6 months old, I got spayed. Miss Venita’s son Jeremy decided that I should become a part of their family so t hey agreed to take me off the adoption list and keep me themselves. I have a really great life. Rinker and Bobby are my best friends, I have great food and a lot of toys to play with. Most important, I have a whole lot of love!!!
Hello, my name is Patches. I am 3 1/2 months old and I weigh 3 1/2 pounds. Someone just threw me out and I found my way to Bl ess Their Hearts Kitty Haven. Miss Venita (my new Mom) took me in, took me to the vet for my tests and shots and then the Blackwelder family decided that I would become a member of their family. There are a bunch of kitties in this family. Rinker, Jasper and Molly have made me feel very welcome. You should see all of the toys we have to play with. I like to be held and kissed by the humans. I LOVE to play will ALL of the toys and wrestle with some of the other kitties. This home is a very nice place to live and the humans are very kind and loving. I am going to have a wonderful, safe life here. I don’t know why I was thrown out but I beg you all reading this to PLEASE, don’t throw your baby kitties out. It is a very dangerous world and the kitty that you throw out may not be as lucky as me. |
